Prison

MINISTRy

"Remember the prisoners..."
Hebrews 13:3

Faith Tabernacle's prison ministry began in 2004 by writing to an inmate on remand. This led to a visit there and then to another prison and our first volunteer role in 2005.

Faith Tabernacle's prison ministry has seen the Power of God transform many lives. Through teaching groups, one to one Bible study, serving Holy Communion, full immersion water Baptisms and participating in Sunday Worship, many inmates have seen their lives dramatically turned around by the love of Christ. We have received so many testimonies of what the Lord has done. We have heard that many are now serving in local churches and praising the Lord!

To date Faith Tabernacle's prison ministry has seen us serve in 12 prisons. We aim to serve in the whole spectrum of prison ministry: working with inmates on remand or sentenced; with those at risk of entering the prison system, with ex-offenders and with the victims of crime also. All in line with the Word of God!

Faith Tabernacle does not work alone in the prisons. Since 2005, we have been a part of Prison Fellowship who run various programmes in prisons including the Sycamore Tree Restorative Justice and Victim Awareness course. This accredited course is based on the story of Zaccheaus taken from Luke 19 from the Bible. Our very own Senior Pastor started out as a group facilitator and has since 2008 been a Course Tutor. This is a life changing course with participants testifying of changing their pleas mid-course from not guilty to guilty and many others who have since never re-offended again!

We are also there to support those who have recently left prison. Faith Tabernacle is listed in the Welcome Directory. A directory of faith communities, churches and ministries that is welcoming to those who have left prison and want to continue on their faith journey.
